It’s been an exciting seven months for the Great Redwood Trail, which will convert a decaying railway into a world-class destination for hikers, cyclists and nature lovers here at home and from across the globe.
Stretching from San Francisco Bay to Humboldt Bay, the proposed trail is a spectacular opportunity to open up some of the most beautiful landscapes on earth and be a significant economic driver now and into the years to come.
Tens of millions have already been secured for planning and development of the trail and we hope you’ll be able to join us on Saturday, May 4, for a special town hall meeting where we will bring the long-term vision for the Great Redwood Trail into focus. Here are the details:
WHAT: Community conversation about where we’ve been, where we’re at now and where we’re going with the trail in the years to come. We’ll provide details and a timeline for the Great Redwood Trail and specifics about the Humboldt segment.
WHEN: Saturday, May 4, from 10:30 to Noon
WHERE: Kate Buchanan Room, Humboldt State University
1 Harpst Street in Arcata (Parking is free at HSU on Saturdays.)
We couldn’t be more excited to kick off this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and we look forward to your input about transforming a dilapidated railway into a world-class trail system for generations to enjoy.
We look forward to talking with you on May 4.
Senator Mike McGuire
P.S. Drop by at 9:30 a.m., before the town hall, for the Humboldt Trails Council’s Trails Summit – an update and open house with refreshments and tabling by trail groups and agencies that are actively planning, developing, managing or maintaining trails in our local Humboldt community.
